Statement of Intent
Statement of Intent
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
For my coursework, I am going to create ‘Diverse Magazine’, an entertainment magazine for fun-loving 16-24 year olds. I have decided to name it ‘Diverse’ because the content that will be included in the magazine will be for everyone, ranging from film and TV, to celebrity, news and music. In order to cater for my audience of fun-loving 16-24 year olds, I intend to use relaxed, informal language in my articles and headlines, photos and images that are positive and light-hearted, and lots of colour throughout the magazine and website. As this is an entertainment magazine, I will be using codes and conventions in order to appeal to my target audience. For example, the tagline of my magazine will be ‘Entertainment news for everyone.’, reflecting the name of the magazine and its intentions. The images and cover lines used on the front covers will reflect the magazines genre, as I will use TV and film stars, music artists and celebrities in order to appeal to my target audience, as this is what they will be looking for in an entertainment magazine. The colour scheme of my magazine and website will also link to my target audience, as I am going to use lots of bright colours on my front covers, and on the website itself. I am going to construct representations in my magazine and website that can be seen through both media products, such as using photos from the same shoot in both products.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
Both my magazine and website will link together really well as they are two products that are digitally convergent. In terms of images, I will use photos from the same shoot in both my magazine and website, that are slightly different, ensuring a specific link, but also making sure there are slight differences so both products are not identical and giving some ‘exclusives’ on my website. I will also use the same colour schemes in both my cover and contents pages of the physical magazine, and will try to do this on my website also. For my cover and contents pages, I really like the idea of creating some that use graphic design and illustration, and this will also be reflected in my website. I am also going to be making specific references to the website in my magazine, by referencing the website address and the ‘exclusive content’ from photoshoots and interviews that will be on the website. My tagline will also be included in both media products, on the home page of the website and on the cover/contents page of the physical copy. Typically, a magazine’s website will have more content than the physical copy, and can be updated constantly with new content, so my website will differ slightly from the physical copy, giving more articles and stories that may not be in the magazine issue itself. Apart from that, both my magazine and website will link together effectively, and follow the codes and conventions of an entertainment magazine.
